ok let me elaborate here: if you are an artist who wants to get hired, or even gain any kind of online following– DON’T LIMIT YOURSELF TO ONE PLATFORM. think of all the potential clients, customers and fans that are out there who don’t even use tumblr, and might never see your work if you’re only posting here!

aside from that, tumblr has never been the ideal platform for gaining exposure. not to say it can’t happen, of course, but changes to the site have obviously made that harder for many artists. instagram and twitter, while not perfect, are populated by a much wider demographic, twitter in particular hosts a lot of professionals who seek out artists to hire. you may find more success on one site compared to another, but that’s exactly why it’s important to try them out and learn from trial and error.

i went quite a few years saying i didn’t need more than one place to post art, because i kept telling myself that i was doing just fine on tumblr, or it was too much work to learn how to use a new website. but once i finally started networking around other places consistently, they allowed my art to grow even faster– with new artist friends, new fans, new clients, and even job offers. make it easier for your potential audience to find you. please consider branching out if you use tumblr exclusively, because there’s no guarantee that any one website will last forever.
